Thailand Stamps 2014: Zodiac Stamp Issue (Year of the Horse)

The Zodiac stamps series have been issued every year since 2003, which was the year of the goat. This year, the year of the horse, as the zodiac cycle ends, comes a horse stamp in Thai-style graphic with stars in the background, representing a star or star constellations. Saturn is the mouth, so he or she will speak arrogantly. The Sun and Mars are hands, meaning the work is rather not good. The Moon is the heart. This person will be ambitious, and always think of doing something big, which sometimes are unable to achieve. Mercury and Venus are the feet. This person does not like travelling far. Jupiter takes the seat, so he or she shall be less interested in sex and love affair. In childhood days, this person was caressed by parents. He or she is soft-hearted, a female deity with the fire element.

Bangkok Airports

The main field before the opening of Don Mueang International Airport was the Sa Pathum airfield. Eight years after the first flight of the Wright Brothers with an engined aircraft, a Belgian pilot, Van den Born flew to Thailand, taking Orville Wright to perform the first flight show from 2 – 8 February 1911 at Sa Pathum Horse Racing Course, now known as the Royal Bangkok Sports Club.
In 1911, Thailand had sent three army officers to France to train as pilots. On completion of their training in 1911, the pilots were authorized to purchase eight aircraft, four Breguets and fourNieuports, which formed the basis of the Royal Thai Air Force. After the termination of Sa Pathum airfield a search for a new location there was and Don Muang became selected at last. Qwing to its elevated landscape, Don Muang was unlikely to be flooded, not too distant from Phra Nakon and it came with a prospect to be extended to a larger airport. The upland was reshaped to enable aircrafts’ takeoff and landing along with a construction of hangars and airline operation offices, as necessary, was seen. On March 8. 1914, airliner from Sa Pathum airfield landing Don Muang International airport for the first time marked the airports auspicious inauguration.Bildergebnis für don muang airport

Don Muang International Airport became a solid foundation of Thai aviation when the Royal Thai Airforce permanently relocated a new base to this area on March 27, 1914.
In September 2006, Don Mueang Airport was closed and replaced by the newly opened Suvarnabhumi Airport, before reopening on 24 March 2007 after renovations. Since the opening of the new airport, it has become a regional commuter flight hub and the de facto low-cost airline hub. In 2015, it became the world's largest low cost carrier airport.

What is "Ramakien"?

The Ramakien (literally "Glory of Rama") is Thailand's national epic, derived from the Hindu Epic Ramayana, an ancient literature. It is the main story of Khon performance, while Indonesia has adopted it for the shadow puppet show the "Wayang purwa". It is the oldest national identity of Indonesia. While the main story is identical to that of the Ramayana, many other aspects were transposed into a Thai context, such as the clothes, weapons, topography, and elements of nature, which are described as being Thai in style. Although Thailand is considered a Theravad Buddhist society, the Hindu mythology latent in the Ramakien serves to provide Thai legends with a creation myth, as well as representations of various spirits which complement beliefs derived from Thai anisimism. A painted representation of the Ramakien can be seen at Wat Phra Kaew in Bangkok. Also many of the statues there depict characters from it.
