Thailand Stamps 2014: Important Buddhist Religious Day (Vesak Day)

Light Waving Rite on Visakha BuchOne of the most important traditions of Buddhists on the full moon day of the Vesak month or the sixth month of the day when Buddha was born, enlightened and passed away, so that we recollect the Triple gem is the light waving rite. It is walking clockwise arouned a stupa or an ordination hall with peace and recollecting Buddha through chanting "Ithipiso". Dhamma through "Svakkhato" and the Sangha through "Supatipanno" repeatedly until 3 times of walking clockwise is complete.
The collection of Visakha Buch wala day stamp is shown with a painting of a circumambulation at Phutthamonthon area in Nakhon Pathorn, one of the famous venues holding the annual Buddhist rites.
