Thailand Stamps 2014: 50th Anniversary of Chiang Mai University

Chiang Mai University is the first state-run regional university in Thailand, established under the 1958 Regional Education Development Project. Situated at the foot of Doi Suthep, Tambon Suthep, Muang District of Chiang Mai province, the university has been opened since 1964. His Majesty the King presided over the official opening ceremony on January 24th, 1965.
The stamp features a photo of Dhamma Hall, one of the important sites in the university. A two-storey building with Thai traditional architecture stands at the front of the university. Once a venue for the university's foundation stone-laying ceremony, the Dhamma Hall is currently housing the university's sacred Buddha image, and also is used for important ceremonies hosted by the university, such as the celebrations and reception parties for honorable guests.
