Thailand Stamps 2015: New Year 2016 (2nd Series: Muang Theparat )

The Beautiful Flowers depicting HRH's Painting

The second set of commemorative stamp of 2016 New Year is consisted of 2 stamps with the face value of 15 Baht each. "Muang Thepparat", is the royal painting by H.R.H. Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn when she proceeded to visit and open Thailand Philatelic Exhibition or THAIPEX 2015 on August 4, 2015 at Grand Postal Building, Bang Rak. Another is the painting of a Muang Theaparat bouquet, a prototype drawn during that day. Muang Theparat or Persian Gentian is an annual plant with the approximate height of 60 centimeters bearing purple-blue colour, originally found outside Thailand but it can grow well in Thailand. H.R.H. Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn granted it Thai name as "Muang Thepparat" on September 29, 2009, which is regarded as an auspicious name because purple is a colour representing HRH. Furthermore, her keen interest in the conservation of plant genetics and her collection of information and technology on plants aare widely praised as seen in her numerous visits to foreign countries for studies to bring updated information to Thai academics upon her return.
