Thailand Stamps 2016: 40th Anniversary o Diplomatic Relations between Thailand and Vietnam

Puppetry Fosters Friendship

Thailand Post collaborates with Vietnamese Post to jointly issue a commemorative stamp to celebrate 40 years of the establishment of diplomatic relationships between Thailand and Vietnam. Both countries have always maintained and strengthened favorable relationships and jointly support the formation of ASEAN. One of common tradition and culture is the art of puppetry. The traditional rod puppet show is considered a renowned traditional art of Thailand while water puppetry attracts all visitors to watch once they visit Vietnam. This stamp issue therefore illustrates the traditional puppet shows: Thai rod puppetry performing "Phra Mahachanok", written by His Majesty the King of Thailand, and Vietnamese water puppetry performing "Lake of the Restored Sword", the historical legend of King Le Loi who was known as the great Vietnamese hero of the 15th century.
