Thailand Stamps 2015: Luang Phor Ngern, Wat Bang Klan

God of Pho Thale

Luang Phor Nger Buddhachote, one of the most famous monks in Thailand, was an abbot in Wat Bang Klan, Amhper Pho Tale, Pichit Province. He was born on September 16, 1810 in the reign of Rama II, Luang Phor Ngern was educated in Wat Chanasongkram at the age of three and was ordained as a novice monk at 12 prior to his full ordination. "Buddhachote" was given as his Pali Monastic name and Luang Phor Ngern became a dedicated student of Somdej Phra Buddhachan (Toh) Promrangsi of Wat Rakhang Khositaram and thoroughly studied Buddha's Dhamma as well as sacred sciences, vipassanadhura for Metta Maha Niyom (an effect of Loving-kindness, enchantment) and invulnerability. His continuous meditation practices contributed to the solidity of his telepathy power and he became well-known for his sacred power, rigid Dhamma discipline and preference for solitude and peace.
When returning to Ampher Pho Thale, Luang Phor Ngern decided to keep his residence in Wat Khongkharam right before moving to Moo Ban Wangtago where he built Wat Hiranyaram (Wat Wangtago), known as Wat Bangklan to villagers. At a time, he was appointed to a preceptor and accepted his rank as Tan Chao Khun (an Ordinary) for the field of Vipassana instruction. Luang Phor Ngern became one of the most long-lived monks (for 111 years) and was highly regarded as one of the legends of Thai amulets with an infamous series of miraculous tales. There has been an extensive production of sacred Luang Phor Ngern cast statuette for respect and worship. THis set of commemorative samp is the portrait of the cast statuette of Luang Phor Ngern, Wat Bang Klan, Phim Niyom, Bao Tub (lost-wax casting), considered to be the worthiest mold in amulet business.
