Tarutao National Marine Park/ Satun Province


Tarutao National Marine Park is perhaps one the most unique regions of Thailand, with some of the most pristine, untouched islands and beach destinations, which are still accessible.
The name "Tarutao" is distorted from "Ta-lo-trao" in the original Malay language means "a lot of bays". Tarutao National Marine Park is located in the Andaman sea, near the Strait of Malacca as part of the Indian Ocean.
Tarutao National Park consists of 51 islands in the Strait of Malacca, off the coast of Satun Province of southern Thailand. The Tarutao National Park consists of two island groups: Tarutao and Adang-Rawi, which are scattered from 20 to 70 kilometres' distance from the south-westernmost point of mainland Thailand. The park covers an area of 1,490 square kilometres (1,260 ocean, 230 island). The southernmost end of the park lies only 4,8 kilometers from the border of Malaysia. Tarutao became Thailand's second marine national park on 19 April 1974. The coastal Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park had been designated in 1966.
It is the eight national park of Thailand and listed as one of the original ASEAN Heritage Parks by UNESCO in the year 1982.
Nowadays, Tarutao National Marine Park becomes a popular tourist destination that attracts people from all over the worl to visit. Its famous islands include "Koh Lipe", "Koh Khai", "Koh Adang", "Koh Rawi" and "Koh Tarutao" that would always welcome the visitors to experience the amazing trael of the undewater world rich with exquisite corals and fish among the beautiful sea. These are like a magnet that attracts so many people to come experience the natural richness of Tarutao National Park.
