Thailand Stamps 2014: 20th Anniversary of Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge (Nong Khai-Vientiane)

The kingdom of Thailand and Lao People Democratic Republic, besides their similarity in a way of life, culture together with a language, allows an easy commute between two borders of Mekong River by a ferry, and a friendship bridge that connects two nations. The first bridge connecting Nongkhai and Vientiane has been operated on 8 August 1994 which was funded by Australia. The bridge returns great benefits for both countries in terms of the economy, trade, investment, tourism, cultural exchange, transportation, beyond this; it is a symbol of friendship of lives along both sides Mekong river.

This collective collection of postage stamp is produced to be commemorative for this occasion of the 20th anniversary of a friendship bridge. Their design is set to display a single sketch from each country; Thai design is a reflection of a merit-making event of Nongkai people bearing a statue of Luang Por Pra Sai of Pochai temple during Songkran along with a picture of Wax castle and pink cassia tree parade during Bun That Luang festival of Laos, whereas; a postage design from Laos shows a picture of Pochai temple's ordination hall and Luang Por Pra Sai statue side by side with Ong Tue Buddha image at Wat Ong Tue in Vientiane. Both stamps are joined with a friendship bridge representing a close tie of two borders of Mekong River.
